Continental Societies, Inc. Columbia, MD Chapter is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization whose purpose is to promote the economic, educational and social welfare of underserved children and youth; and to enhance their recreational activities, and to promote additional experiences necessary for their optimal development.
Continental Societies, Inc. Columbia, MD Chapter was established in 1992 to provide children in our schools and communities the best quality programs and activities in our 5-point programmatic thrust in the areas of Health, Education, Employment, Recreation, plus Arts and Humanities.
One of our founding members, Sara Clark, a dedicated teacher in DC Public Schools, was lost in the attacks on 9/11/01. One of our key accomplishments is that over the last 20 years we have awarded over $21,000 in scholarships through the Howard County Foundation for Black Education and Cultural Achievement in memory of Continental Sara Clark. Other initiatives include:
- Contributed food and toiletries to the Cradlerock Elementary School (CRES) food pantry;
- Collected food donations for Martin Luther King (MLK) Day of service and donated it to the Howard County Food Bank Education; and
- Provided incentives for CRES’s annual Turkey Trot promoting exercise and healthy living.
