Two schools in Houston, TX have been served by Amel USA for the 1×1 In-person & Virtual Leadership & Career Coaching program.

The entire funding of $2,000 from BreaktheTide was used to pay for the Coaching Program Director’s compensation. [To ensure privacy, the actual pay stub for the Program Director is not shared]

The Program Director was responsible for regularly communicating with coaches and school; transportation to the school; time spent during the coaching session at school and collecting feedback before and after the sessions.

Amel USA funded other operating expenses which included snacks and water for individual coaching sessions ($15-$40 per session), Zoom membership(~ $15 per month) for virtual coaching sessions; award recognition for coaches and printing materials such as coaching agreements.

None of the BreaktheTide funds were used for marketing expenses such as fundraising event promotions for Amel USA.

A total of 20 students from two high schools in Houston, TX received 1×1 In-person & Virtual Leadership & Career Coaching in 12 separate sessions.

To protect the confidentiality of the students, Amel USA has requested to remove the names of the students so we will only use the first letter of the students’ names and the name of the school

Amel USA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing mental health support, education, and social support for refugee, asylee, and immigrant communities in Houston, Texas. Amel Association USA was founded in 2016 by Assaad Mohanna with the mission of improving the quality of life of Houston’s refugees and asylees.

Amel Association USA’s cornerstone initiative is a coaching program that provides underserved high school students with leadership and career coaching. Amel has provided 135 one-on-one coaching sessions from 2022-2023 to Houston Independent School District (HISD) students.

Amel USA is associated with Amel Association International, an internationally-recognized Non Governmental Organization (NGO) providing healthcare, education and mental health support and job training for vulnerable groups in the Middle East. Amel Association International has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and is a winner of the United Nations’ Big Heart award.
