Building Homes in 2024
On May 26, 2024, Cyclone Remal hit the coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal in India devastating the people and upended their lives and livelihood. In Bangladesh alone, about 4.6 million people were affected by Cyclone Remal. The highest recorded wind speed was 111 km/hr. (69 miles/hr.) with a massive storm surge accompanied by extremely heavy rainfall causing a massive flood of 5-8 feet of water. The devastating winds and intense flooding forced thousands of people from their homes.
BreaktheTide, in collaboration with Sporsho Foundation’s Taruchhaya Project, built two one-room houses for Fazi Bibi and Fatema Khatun, two women who had lost their husbands and their source of livelihood. Fazi Bibi and Fatema Khatun are from the coastal area of Paikgacha in the Khulna District of Bangladesh.
Restarting and Restoring Life is one of the missions of BreaktheTide as we seek to empower those who have undergone significant challenges in their lives and require support to rehabilitate themselves.
