With $500 RTI purchased a 21.5” monitor and a desktop computer and accessories for the Harmony Haven students.

Asma Begum, a student of RTI attended the Computer Literacy and Proficiency program and excelled in PowerPoint presentation. She shared a few slides from her presentation.

Interim Update:

The desktop computer helped the students of Harmony Haven to learn English from Dr. Beverley Questad, an esteemed educator from the USA. She is offering online English classes to the students. The online classes give the girls a dynamic learning experience that is more engaging than traditional classes. The girls are also getting other computer learning experiences from basic computer operations to more advanced digital literacy. These classes are offered in person by Shah Alam Badshah.

The desktop computer not only enhanced the educational opportunities for the girls at Harmony Haven but it has ignited a passion for learning and self-improvement.

Rise to Independence (RTI) is a nonprofit 501c(3), U.S. registered organization working in Bangladesh. RTI operates an orphanage for girls and it is dedicated to empowering orphaned girls through providing education, vocational training, and support for their families.

In September 2023, RTI established Harmony Haven, an orphanage to provide shelter to eight distressed girls. The girls are admitted to school and college and they are provided in-house tutoring so they can successfully complete their examinations. The girls receive complete healthcare support, annual health exam and treatment for ailments hindering their academic pursuits. The girls are supported in their psychological development by a professional U.S. educator holding a doctorate degree in Developmental Psychology.

In addition to their academic pursuits, the girls participate in different extracurricular activities and some of them won prizes in school sports events, attended educational and recreational tours. The girls get training in time management, developing good moral values, etiquettes, behavior, manners, cleanliness, responsibilities towards themselves and people around them. Their progress is closely monitored and evaluated monthly and they are rewarded for their achievements.

BreaktheTide sponsored RTI’s computer literacy and proficiency program for the girls in the Harmony Haven Orphanage. In addition to the current academic curriculum of obtaining the Secondary School and Higher Secondary Certificates, the girls will have the opportunity to obtain computer literacy and be proficient in computer skills.
